WELCOME TO NVIS "On behalf of NVIS I would like to extend a warm welcome to parents, students and teachers. NVIS is a caring, brant and forward thinking international school. Our shared educational goal is to develop independent, confident and principled individuals who are able and willing to fulfill the role of valuable members of society. We are committed to deliver the PYP, Primary Years Program to enable internationally minded students to emerge from NVIS. Our school is entering its third year and student numbers have doubled since we opened in 2007. We endeavor to demonstrate a spirit of excellence to produce ethical leaders for tomorrow! God willing Quote Socrates said more than 2000 years ago “questioning” rather than “telling” is the key to seeking wisdom and knowledge. PYP Primary Years Program is a concept driven curriculum which promotes meaning and understanding via transdisciplinary themes through purposeful structured inquiry. Not only does the program focus on knowledge, concepts and skills but it develops attitudes which enhance the holistic development of students. We are currently a candidate school for PYP authorization and will have pre authorization visit in March 2010 and hope to be fully authorized by 2011. The National curriculum is delivered simultaneously and parallel to the PYP curriculum. Up to Gr 3 Arabic and Religion are taught and in Gr 4 Social Studies is added. In this way cultural values are held in high esteem by NVIS We appoint vibrant, enthusiastic, dedicated members of staff from different nationalities who believe in awakening the creative expression in their students. This year we have Egyptian, South- African, Canadian, American, Turkish and British members on our staff. We encourage professional development and have frequent in house teacher training sessions as well as regional training to share ideas and sharpen our skills. Great prospects are on the horizon for the new academic year. Parents are invited to attend workshops which will be held at least twice a term. Details of these workshops will be made known well in advance. A Sports day as well as a fun run is being organized early next year! On the cultural side we are looking into ideas for our musical production towards year end and we plan to visit the Cairo Opera House. Celebrations of learning, national days and reading weeks will all be part of our academic and community programs. We encourage parents not only to be spectators of their child's learning but join in and partake of all NVIS has to. We work together as a large family committed to the well-being of our students. We are all involved to ensure a bright future for each child. Let us continue to demonstrate a spirit of excellence to produce ethical leaders for tomorrow! God willing! Ponder upon this: The greatest misconception in education is that too many teachers/parents tend to think of teaching as answering rather than questioning.
